In August of 2021 I was lucky to be the counselor of a most incredible 11-year-old girl named Michelle. Michelle fought hard for the next year, but unfortunately passed away this past August of 2022.

Michelle was a fun-loving, caring, and spunky girl who never let her illness get in her way. Whether it was making Tik Toks, going to the mall, or just hanging out, Michelle always knew how to make things fun, even when she was in the hospital. Throughout her yearlong battle, Michelle held on to the memories and friendships she had from Camp Simcha. Michelle loved Camp Simcha SO much and it was Camp Simcha that carried her through her tough times.

This January, I will be running (walking/crawling) in the Miami Marathon/Half-Marathon as part of Team Lifeline to benefit children with cancer, disabilities, and other serious medical conditions. Every dollar I raise and every mile I run will benefit Chai Lifeline, an international children’s health support network that provides critical year-round programs and services to nearly 6,000 families confronting pediatric illness. One program of Chai Lifeline is their summer camp where I was Michelle's counselor-Camp Simcha!

While running all those miles will be challenging, I am excited to help raise awareness and funds for such an important and worthy cause, in memory of and leilui nishmas my dear camper, Michelle, Michelle Tal bas Yisrael.
