Meet Shimon, a 12-year-old with a heart full of courage, despite the challenges he’s faced. Diagnosed at just 2 years old with Neurofibromatosis type 1 and Optic Pathway Glioma, a brain tumor near his eye, Shimon’s life has been filled with medical appointments and difficult moments. But this summer, something extraordinary happened—Shimon attended Camp Simcha for the very first time.
Camp Simcha offered Shimon a world of possibilities, where the focus wasn’t on his illness but on the joys of childhood. Of all the activities he tried and loved, one stood out above the rest: swimming. The pool became his favorite place, a spot where he could just be a kid, splashing around and having fun without a care in the world.
Shimon had been dreaming of a helicopter ride for as long as he could remember, always watching the helipads in the city on the way to his hospital appointments. This summer, that dream came true, and it was everything he hoped for and more. The excitement of soaring through the sky was an experience he’ll never forget.
But the magic didn’t stop there. Shimon also discovered a love for ceramics, baking, and spending time in the craft shops, where his creativity flourished. Each activity at Camp Simcha allowed him to explore new interests in a place filled with support, friendship, and fun.
Now, Shimon’s journey continues, and you have the chance to be part of it. By running for Team Lifeline, you can support Shimon and other children like him who are facing serious illnesses. Your participation will help provide the necessary programs and services that these children and their families need during their toughest times.
Let Shimon’s story motivate you to lace up your shoes and make a difference. Together, we can help Shimon and countless others find their strength, their courage, and their smiles.
