I am running to raise money for Chai Lifeline as a means of Hakaras HaTov, thankfulness and appreciation, and to represent the HEBREW ACADEMY OF THE FIVE TOWNS AND ROCKAWAY ("HAFTR"), in memory of Jacob Greenberg a”h”.
On November 10, 2001, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Through the grace of Hashem, and with the participation of doctors and friends, I have been cured.
Throughout my ordeal, Chai Lifeline stood by my family’s side and helped tremendously, providing, among many other things, big brothers and sisters and emotional support, providing food in the hospital, and an incredible camp experience at Camp Simcha in Spring Glen, New York.
On March 30, 2005, Jacob Greenberg, a HAFTR freshman, a sports lover who was devoted to family, friends and his faith, suddenly collapsed while playing ball at school, and died.
Jacob was an extraordinary young man who exemplified midos, family values, team spirit, and a commitment to Torah. He was and remains an inspiration to his family and friends. His love for life continues to provide us with a mission to better our own lives and our relationships with family and friends.
After Jacob’s death, social workers from Chai Lifeline came to HAFTR to help the students cope with his tragic death.
Chai Lifeline is an organization dedicated to helping children suffering from serious illness as well as their family members, addressing the full spectrum of the needs of children and their families from logistical to social, recreational to psychological. They reach out not only to patients, but also to parents, siblings, classmates, school faculty, and the community as well.
I could not think of a better organization to support than Chai Lifeline.
