And it goes…

The running is getting easier as time goes on. It’s very hard to stick to the set schedule amidst all of the upcoming holidays and various preparations involved, but I’ve been forcing myself to get up and do a minimum of four miles a night– even if I don’t get around to it until about 11:00 pm.

I’m finding that this training is teaching me a great deal about self-discipline! The metaphors “going the distance”  and “running a marathon” are ringing true in my ears, and it’s crossed over into other aspects of my daily life, such as work and religious obligations. Overall, a very positive effect. And my pants are getting looser!

Training, Day 1

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for stopping by my personal page and taking an interest in our exciting project to benefit Chai Lifeline, an amazing organization dedicated to easing the lives of children battling cancer and other terminal diseases and their families. I thought I would return the favor by updating you all on progress we make as we go along.

First off, we are NOT athletes. Sure, we go to the gym here and there and we try to watch what we eat, but running/walking several miles a night isn’t exactly what we would call a leisure activity. One of our biggest goals in participating in this marathon is to break our expectations of fun and exciting.

So yesterday, Labour Day, we laced up our sneaks, did all sorts of crazy stretches for about 9 min, and headed out for the beginning of our training. The schedule dictates that, if we are to walk the entire route, we start off walking 4 miles. I Google-Mapped the distance from our house and determined that about halfway in between Eglinton and St. Clair would be 2 miles from our apartment, so to go there and back would satisfy our distance requirement. We left our apartment on Meadowbrook and walked south on Shermount, then east on Viewmount, and then south on Bathurst. It wasn’t too bad! We were both shvitzing at the end, as it was a pretty hot day yesterday, and the route was a lot hillier than we had expected. We did the post run stretches, and this morning I don’t feel a thing! This whole marathon-running thing should be a breeze! (…famous last words.)

That’s all for now! I’ll keep you updated on all the latest developments! PLEASE tell your friends and family about this exciting and worthy cause! We can use all the help we can get, no matter how small the amount!
